AGENCY

"We are free to choose what we will and to pick and choose our acts, but we are not free to choose the consequences. They come as they will come."
Elder Boyd K. Packer, April 2013 General Conference, "These Things I Know"

"All are born with the Light of Christ, a guiding influence which permits each person to recognize right from wring. What we do with that light and how we respond to those promptings to live righteously is part of the test of mortality."
Elder Boyd K. Packer, April 2013 General Conference, "These Things I Know"

“Men and women receive their agency as a gift from God, but their liberty and, in turn, their eternal happiness come from obedience to His laws.”
Elder L. Tom Perry, April 2013 General Conference, "Obedience to Law is Liberty"

“Each choice you and I make is a test of our agency-whether we choose to be obedient or disobedient to the commandments of God is actually a choice between ‘liberty and eternal life’ and ‘captivity and death’.”
Elder L. Tom Perry, April 2013 General Conference, "Obedience to Law is Liberty"

"None of us should ever underestimate how driven Satan is to succeed. His role in God's eternal plan creates 'opposition in all things'".
Elder L. Tom Perry, April 2013 General Conference, "Obedience to Law is Liberty"

"Sin will always be sin. Disobedience to the Lord's commandments will always deprive us of His blessings. The world changes constantly and dramatically, the God, His commandments, and promised blessings do not change."
Elder L. Tom Perry, April 2013 General Conference, "Obedience to Law is Liberty"

“We are not authorized to negotiate the conditions of [the] eternal plan.”
Elder Robert D. Hales, April 2013 General Conference, Priesthood Session, "Stand Strong in Holy Places"

“Agency is essential to the plan of happiness. It allows for the love, sacrifice, personal growth, and experience necessary for our eternal progression.”
Elder Quentin L. Cook, April 2013 General Conference, "Personal Peace: The Reward of Righteousness"

“Agency also allows for all the pain and suffering we experience in mortality, even when caused by things we do not understand and the devastating evil choices of others.”
Elder Quentin L. Cook, April 2013 General Conference, "Personal Peace: The Reward of Righteousness"

"Each of us has had, and will continue to have adversity in our lives. This mortal life is a time of testing, and we will continue to have opportunities to use our agency to choose what we will learn from the adversity that will surely come.... it isn't enough to just be on the journey; we must be awake to our duty and continue with faith as we draw upon the comforting, strengthening and enabling and healing power of the Atonement."
     Sister Linda S. Burton

Agency is a great gift that we have been given.  It is a powerful gift that can either make us or break us while here on earth.  I love the object lesson where you hold up a stick.  One end of the stick says choice, and the other end says consequence.  When you pick up one end of the stick the other end always comes with it, signifying that every time a choice is made, a consequence will always accompany it.  It can be good or bad depending on the choice. The wonderful gift of the Holy Ghost can help us on our journey while here on earth.  Once baptized, if we remain worthy, we can have His constant companionship to guide us and direct our choices.
